Yes. If you plan to run this off-grid, you must use the Solar Harness (LA500SLRHARN) to regulate battery charging. We include this automatically in our solar kits.

This solar harness must be specially ordered if the gate is to be run from solar and the onboard battery; the solar harness replaces the factory default harness which is supplied with the opener. The solar harness part number is: LA500SLRHARN. The solar harness regulates the solar charge and keeps the batteries from overcharging during the day and from discharging when the sun goes down.
